Pixel Cat Avatar Guide: Build a Clear 48px Cat Icon

Make a 48px pixel cat avatar with readable ears, eyes, coat pattern, tail, and background contrast.

A small cat avatar succeeds when the ears, face, and coat remain distinct at the generator's native 48px size. Start with those shapes before adding patterns or accessories.

Build the cat in a stable order

Open Pixel Cat, press START, then choose:

  1. Body and coat color.
  2. Ears and face.
  3. Eyes and expression.
  4. Coat pattern.
  5. Tail and one optional accessory.
  6. Background.

This order keeps the identity clear. If the base cat is not readable, another accessory will not fix it.

Protect the ears and eyes

Ears form most of the silhouette, while the eyes carry the expression. Keep both separated from nearby colors. If dark ears touch a dark background, change the background before changing every cat feature.

Use coat patterns carefully

A pattern can distinguish the cat, but many small marks compete at 48px. Pick one that remains visible in the saved PNG. If the face becomes noisy, keep the body pattern and simplify the head.

Check the tail and crop

The tail can reach toward the edge of the square. Upload the saved PNG to the intended profile and inspect its circle crop. If the tail disappears, decide whether the face alone is strong enough. Do not assume every service will show the corners.

Final check

  • The ears separate from the background.
  • The eyes are visible without zooming.
  • The coat pattern does not cover the face.
  • The tail is optional to recognition.
  • The saved 48px PNG opens and survives the actual crop.
