The Classic Square generator is a surviving Flash-era avatar tool. Independent archives identify the work as a 2013 release by h071019, also credited as Eichi Zerona. This site runs a self-hosted copy of the SWF through Ruffle so it can open in a modern browser.
What the archives document
Flash Museum lists Square Face Icon Generator with a release date of February 28, 2013, developer h071019, and a 256 by 256 result. Web Design Museum credits Eichi Zerona (h071019) and also dates it to 2013.
Those archive pages are the evidence for the date and attribution. This site did not create the original SWF, and it does not claim a partnership with the original author, Flash Museum, Web Design Museum, or Ruffle. The original licensing and ownership chain have not been independently proven here.

Why Flash needs a compatibility layer
Modern browsers no longer run the old Flash Player plugin. Ruffle is an open-source Flash Player emulator written in Rust. Its web build uses WebAssembly to run compatible SWF files inside a current page.
Ruffle's own project notes that ActionScript support is still incomplete. A preserved tool can therefore behave differently from its original Flash Player environment, especially on browsers or input methods the original work did not target.
How the Classic tool runs here
This site self-hosts the Ruffle web package and the Square Face SWF. Opening Classic Square loads that compatibility layer, then the generator presents its original START and SAVE flow.
If it does not start in a particular browser, use the separate HTML5 Square Face Editor. The HTML5 editor is an alternative interface on this site, not a claim that the historic Flash work has been rewritten or officially continued.
What preservation does and does not prove
Keeping a tool runnable preserves access to an interaction and visual style that would otherwise be difficult to experience. It does not settle the original rights history, guarantee perfect emulation, or make this site the official successor.
The useful test is direct: open the Classic tool, customize a face, save the result, and compare its behavior with the archive descriptions. Treat differences as compatibility limits rather than silently filling gaps in the historical record.
